LAVONNE 2001

Well, it was a busy year for us all.  This trip to Alaska is something that we have been dreaming about for years so it was wonderful to finally be able to do it.  The kids did so well and the whole trip was such a great success! Most of the story that is on the first page is an article that I wrote for a Swedish newspaper about our trip, so now I can say that I have been published.  It is good practice for this years project, we are now working on a book that we will be selling on Kodiak next year.

This little guy was our pet for a few days while we camped at Burton's.  A little baby bird that we named Fuzzy.  He had gotten lost from his mother when Stefan accidentally knocked over the nest that was in a barrel we were going to use.  He stayed with us for two days and then we heard is mommy looking for him so we hope that they were reunited.
After our time in Alaska the kids and I flew to Colorado to spend time with my parents.  They are living in their big house on the hill.  The biggest news from them is that my Dad has retired!  He surprised us all in December by dropping the news.  So now they are footloose and fancy free!
Jens took us quadrunning and when the kids had had their fill it was my turn.  He took me all the way to the top of the mountain and we had a wonderful view of the city.  On the way back he took one of his famous shortcuts.  The road we were on disappeared at times and in places was so steep and rocky that I had to get off and walk. Before we knew it we were completely lost!  It took us two hours to get back to the kids and Grandpa who was babysitting! But it was lots of fun, wish I had had a camera.
My friend from High School, Melissa, and her family were vacationing in Colorado the week we arrived.  It was wonderful to see her again after all these years.  Jonathan and her son, Chris, have been emailing each other so now they also got a chance to meet.
And yes, I turned 40.  Stefan threw me a big party on Kodiak.  It also happened to be our last weekend so many people showed up to say good bye.  Turning 40 has wrought some changes in my life.  When I got to Colorado I got my hair cut.  After 20 years of the same hairdo it was time for a change!  Then I started walking.  I walked about 2 miles a day in Colorado and even got my Dad to join me!  Now I am walking 3 miles a day and I have lost 20 lbs!  So I have to add a picture of the new me!
